A world on fire: forest blazes caused by human hands
Climate change enhances the drying of organic matter
in forests and has doubled the number of large fires
between 1984 and 2021.
In the summer of 2021 wildfires continued to rip through
Southern and Eastern Europe, The West Coast of America,
and Australia prompting humans to flee to safety by sea.
Although human activities are mainly responsible for
starting the fires, hotter weather makes forests drier
and more susceptible to burning. Rising temperatures,
a key indicator of climate change, evaporate more moisture
from the ground, drying out the soil, and making vegetation
more flammable.
